Anand Karaj is the Sikh marriage ceremony, meaning "Act towards happiness" or "Act towards happy life", that was introduced by Guru Amar Das.

CULTURAL INFORMATION:

Prior to entering the Gurdwara, please remove your shoes, wash your hands & feet, and wear a head covering. Walk down the aisle and place an offering in front of the Guru Granth Sahib. The offering is not charity but a sharing of God's gifts. If a person has no money or food to offer they may offer flowers, or just some words of sincere thanks. A dollar bill is the most common instance.

Bow, and touch your forehead to the ground, then walk once clockwise around Guru Granth Sahib. Women will sit on one side, and men on the other, please do not sit with your plus one unless you are of the same sex. It is forbidden to smoke tobacco, or be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol while on the premises.

ATTIRE:

Punjabi or Western with Head Covering

If you opt to wear punjabi style garments, men can opt for a Sherwani or Kurta pajama. Men also sometimes wear an american style suit with a rumāl.

The the women can wear salwar kameez, patiala suit, or salwar suit.
